FDA approves the first oral GLP-1 for chronic weight management: the Wegovy pill

Novo Nordisk's 25 mg oral semaglutide must be taken on an empty stomach. In the OASIS 4 trial it averaged -13.6% at week 64.

The FDA approved a once-daily oral form of Wegovy (semaglutide 25 mg) on December 22, 2025, per industry and trade reports.

In OASIS 4, 307 adults with overweight or obesity lost an estimated 13.6% of body weight at week 64, compared with 2.2% on placebo. Gastrointestinal adverse events were more common with the pill (74.0% vs 42.2%). The trial was funded by Novo Nordisk.
