FDA approves Lilly's once-daily weight-loss pill orforglipron, sold as Foundayo
The small-molecule GLP-1 pill can be taken without food or water restrictions. In its phase 3 trial the top dose averaged an 11.2% weight loss at 72 weeks.
The FDA approved Eli Lilly's orforglipron for weight management on April 1 under an expedited review, according to news reports. Orforglipron is a non-peptide, oral GLP-1 receptor agonist.
In the 72-week ATTAIN-1 trial of 3,127 adults with obesity, the 36 mg dose produced an average weight change of -11.2% against -2.1% on placebo. Between 5.3% and 10.3% of patients on orforglipron stopped treatment because of adverse events, versus 2.7% on placebo. The trial was funded by Lilly.
It follows the December 2025 approval of Novo Nordisk's Wegovy pill. The pills produced less average weight loss than the weekly injections in their separate trials.
