How this relates to the trials

The large weight loss medication trials enrolled adults with a BMI of 30 or more, or 27 or more with at least one weight-related condition (such as high blood pressure or dyslipidemia). Those are trial criteria, not a prescription rule: labels and clinicians decide eligibility. BMI also ignores muscle mass, age and ethnicity, so it is a screening number, not a diagnosis.
